Forbidden Baby Foods - What Foods to Avoid?

Posted: 29 Jul 2009 02:30 PM PDT

There are a lot of food which you should avoid giving to your baby until he or she has reached certain age. Some of these foods may cause a certain health risk while others cause allergies. In this article I will list products which are better to avoid while feeding your baby. Of course consult with your pediatrician in order to get more information. Citrus or other acidic fruits for example are not allergen but they may cause digestive upset or rash. Another product to avoid is whole milk. Lactose and milk proteins may cause allergic reactions and may cause tummy troubles because they are rather hard to digest. So don't introduce whole milk as a replacement for breast milk or formula. The only exception is yogurt and some cheeses. They are cultured and easier to digest.

Grapes for example can pose a chocking hazard and you have to be very careful when you give it to your baby. It is better to introduce grapes after one year. Honey should be avoided until at least one year of life. It is not an allergen but may cause botulism. Another food to avoid are peanuts, shell fish and strawberries. Babies under the age of 12 months can suffer tummy upsets or rashes due to acidity. Peanuts can pose chocking hazard. Some foods have other side effects. For example broccoli is known to cause gas in many people and it is better not to feed baby who is 6 months old with it. Beans are also to avoid.

Here is the list of products to avoid:

Honey can be introduced after one year.

Tree Nuts can be introduced after one or two years.

Peanut Butter can be introduced after one or two years.

Raw Strawberries, Blackberries, Raspberries can be introduced after one year

Citrus or Acidic Fruits can be introduced after one year.

Whole Milk - can be introduced after one year.

Corn may cause allergen reaction and it is doesn't have a lot of nutritious values. Can be introduced after one year.

Egg White can be introduced after one year.

Grapes can be introduced after one year.

Wheat can be introduced around 9, 10 or 1 year. To learn more, consult with pediatrician.

Chocolate can be introduced after one year but we don't recommend to give your baby chocolate.

Shellfish/Crustaceans can be introduced after one or two years

Before introducing certain food to your baby, you should consult it with your pediatrician.

Potty Elmo - Help Pique Your Child's Interest by Potty Training Elmo

Posted: 29 Jul 2009 02:20 PM PDT

Get your child more interested in potty training with a Potty Elmo doll. Children are encouraged to help Elmo with the potty and then learn that they can be like Elmo and use the potty. The Potty Elmo Doll is a visual for kids to focus on.

Potty Elmo is an educational doll that your child interacts with for potty training. Elmo comes with a potty chair, sippy cup, and a storybook. Here is how Elmo works: The child will squeeze Elmo's hand and he asks for a drink. Sometimes he asks for more and other times he says he needs to go to the potty. If he has an accident he says "accidents happen" and when he goes on time to the potty he sings a song about how he can do it and so can you. It is really cute. Potty training tips and a chart also come with Elmo. He uses batteries, which need to be purchased separately. The age group for the doll is 18 months and up.

Many of the dolls come with an Elmo Potty Time DVD. This DVD teaches children that everyone has to learn how to use the potty. Your child will learn that accidents are okay and that it takes time and practice before he can use the potty on his own. This DVD helps child learn confidence-building skills and healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Using the DVD at the same time as Potty Elmo serves as positive reinforcement.

Here's a Potty Elmo Tip: Parents have found that it helps to sit Elmo's potty chair next to their child's potty chair in the bathroom. When their child goes and sits on the potty, Elmo can sit on his at the same time.

Why Do You Need a Portable Baby Crib?

Posted: 29 Jul 2009 02:19 PM PDT

With more people on the go than ever before, a portable baby crib has become an essential for modern everyday parents. Many of us spend a lot of our time traveling; this may be for work or simply for pleasure. In cases such as this, as parents, we rely on portable baby cribs as a means of protecting our little ones while they are playing and providing them with a safe place to sleep. Portable baby cribs are perfect for this as most modern portable cribs double as playpens.

They can be easily transported anywhere as they usually have wheels and can be easily folded into a compact size. What you need to remember however above everything else is that your baby will be spending a lot of time in the portable crib so you need to ensure that it falls in line with safety measures as well as deciding whether you are happy with the style, finish and color as well as quality.

What are my choices for a Portable Crib?

As you are probably aware there are a number of portable baby cribs on the market and often we don't know where to start looking for one. Well to help you make your decision we have outlined some of the most popular as well as most practical...

Metal Folding Portable Crib

Keeps your baby safe and contains a soft mattress. Easy to fold away and store in your home. The main manufacturer of this type of portable crib is Delta Enterprise and you can generally pick one up for around $160 to $180

Mini Rocking Portable Crib

Has a rounded base, which allows a rocking motion that resembles a cradle. There is also a stopper function on it to make the crib stationary. You can usually purchase these for around $180 to $200 and Da Vinci do a great line of them.

Wooden Folding Portable Crib

Has the same function as a metal crib. Is also easy to fold away and store. Generally these types of portable cribs don't have drop sides. Again if you are thinking of purchasing one of these you will be looking at around $160 to $180.

Indoor/outdoor Play Tent

This can be used in a variety of locations, making it one of the most practical types of portable cribs. Has a waterproof floor and insect netting to protect your baby from outdoor elements. This type of portable baby crib is generally inexpensive; usually in the price range of $54 to $62

Bassinets

These have a function of a crib by night and a play yard by day. They make it a lot easier to monitor and feed your baby from the comfort of your bed. One of the main manufacturers of this type of portable baby cribs are Alta Baby; again these are generally inexpensive and you can usually pick one up for around $39 to $186.

My advice to anyone who is looking into the purchase of a portable baby crib is to look into the ranges that are available to you. As you can see there are so many styles and varieties available, even for parents on a tight budget so don't limit yourself, take a look at what is available to you before deciding.

Use Soothing Music to Calm Your Baby

Posted: 29 Jul 2009 02:16 PM PDT

We reckon that the best way to calm a baby is with music. Music is great for your baby, and many parents who have already tried this will agree. Music really is a great method for soothing your baby. It would be ideal to have the music on a CD so that you can play it for your baby at any time. You could also play the music in the car if you keep a copy in their. This means you can calm your baby even when they are laying in their child seat whilst on a car journey with you. On a car journey with your child in their baby seat with the motion of the car plus the soothing sound of the music, your child will be fast asleep in no time.

Nature sounds (waterfalls etc) and white noise are both other excellent types of noise for calming baby. The noise a fan makes and the noise of a hairdryer are examples of how white noise sounds. Introducing your baby to these sounds and noises is very simple. Know which songs help calm your baby by playing them and seeing which ones they react to. Burn the music onto a CD after you have found the tunes your baby reacts best to.

There is a fairly big choice of CDs in online stores and retail stores which you can purchase which are specially made up for young babies. CDs you can buy from the shops are usually full of the perfect soothing songs for your baby. It is common sense that quiet slow music is the perfect type to go for.

The music will bring other benefits other than just making your baby calm. If the music stops your baby from crying, that is a huge benefit but it should also help to lift any stress if you are feeling that way. Introducing music to your baby can help them to enhance their behavioural skills.

So why just sit there? Get out there and find some music for your baby. Why shouldn't you if it is going to help soothe your baby? If you drive anywhere with baby try to have a second copy of the CD just for the car. You could maybe take your child out for short drives while listening to their favourite music. You will be surprised of how much this easy method works. It can get your baby to go into dreamland very easily.
