Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat Posted: 02 Aug 2009 07:18 PM PDT Forty years ago nobody knew what a Britax Marathon car seat was. Come to think about it, even as late as Y2K it was not available. Frankly, I don't think there were any car seats available 40 years ago. If there were, they would have been made out of the same flimsy metal that swing sets are made from. Probably just as unsafe! I remember riding in the bed of an open pick truck with half a dozen neighborhood kids. We never used seat belts. Parents would load their family vehicles with all the neighborhood kids and go off for ice cream with 12 rowdy kids stuffed like sardines in the back seat. The Britax Marathon is about the safest seat on the market. It's built like a Hummer so it ought to be safe! Weighing 16.5 pounds, it feels like it could protect an adult. The Britax Marathon is Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213 compliant. To put this into plain English, this means that it's nearly indestructible and built to the strictest safety standards. If you pick up the Britax Marathon, you will know what I mean. Britax uses the patented floating Harness Ultra Guard system (HUGS) which again exceeds U.S. safety standards. The Marathon accomplishes this by reducing forward head movement as it gently cushions the chest and neck with very soft padding. If only adult seats could be this comfortable! Have you ever noticed how fast a baby goes to sleep in a baby seat? Maybe Britax should market the seat as a way to keep your child from crying! Years ago when my children were crying, my concentration on driving was greatly diminished. There were not Britax Marathon's available 8 years ago. If you really are serious about protecting your very young child, I would recommend spending at least half of what you spend on annual car insurance for a safe child car seat. Do your research. Amazon.com has great reviews on all the major car seats available. The Britax Marathon rates in the top seller list. The bottom line is that by law you need a car seat. Find a car seat that is both comfortable and safe. Comfort for you ears (no crying) and safety for your peace of mind. |
3 Tips For Choosing Safe Outdoor Toys For Your Toddler Posted: 02 Aug 2009 10:45 AM PDT When choosing any sort of toys for your children there are basic safety rules to follow, and there are even a few extras for outdoor play. The main thing to remember that selecting even the best and safest toys does not mean that your child no longer needs supervision. Any time your children are outside playing an adult needs to be close by and watching. Some basic safety tips for outdoor toddler toys are as follows: 1. Always follow the suggested age range on the toys 2. Find toys that are durable. 3. For Climbing Toys, make sure they are constructed with a solid base. Choosing the best toddler toys for outdoor play is a mixture of common sense and a willingness to test and inspect toys to make sure they are truly safe. Follow the manufacturer's directions for assembly and placement. Be sure to store all of your outdoor toys in a dry storage area as well, and remember never let your child play alone, join in on the fun! |
