Isabella, Jack Most Popular Baby Names - WWJ Posted: 13 Jan 2010 01:17 PM PST Southfield (WWJ) -- Jack and Isabella or Isabelle are the top baby names in Oakland County for 2009. The Oakland County Clerk's records show there were 19,426 births for 2009. There still are no baby "Baracks," as people predicted after President Barack Obama was elected. For boys, the top names were Jack, Jacob, Joshua, Nathan and Joseph. The top girls names were Isabella or Isabelle, Sophie, Olivia, Ava, and Emma. Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson says geography played a part in some names like Cairo, Malaysia, Ireland, and the more popular Paris. There were 19 babies named angel, along with a Titus, and a Tag. "Parents were really creative," Johnson said in announcing the top names. "We had a Blaze, Klaribelle, Maribelle, Karizma and Charisma, Tequila, Milo, Delorean, Lynkon and Essence as well as Artemus and Angus. There were also names such as Eden, Trinity, Genesis, Angel, Jonah, Gideon, Jericho, Moses and Leviticus as well as both Faith and Praise. Oakland County news briefs - Detroit Free Press Posted: 14 Jan 2010 12:42 AM PST BLOOMFIELD HILLS: Input sought on new schools chiefLetters are being sent this week to about 16,500 households in Bloomfield Hills Schools to encourage participation in the search for the district's next superintendent. Superintendent Steve Gaynor plans to retire June 30. While the district has hired a search firm to find a new superintendent, officials want to know what residents think. Meetings are to start Tuesday for parents and community members. The first is for middle school parents at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Doyle Center, 7275 Wing Lake Road. A meeting for high school parents is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bloomfield Hills Middle School, 4200 W. Quarton Road. Meetings scheduled in February are on the district's Web site, www.bloomfield.org . The board plans to name a new superintendent by April 15. FARMINGTON: Council meeting to weigh SMART participationThe Farmington City Council is to hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 26 to consider whether to continue participating in the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) system. More than 50 communities, including 36 in Oakland County, already opt out of SMART. The next SMART millage vote is in August. The SMART tax, which is 0.59 mill, costs the owner of a home with a taxable value of $100,000 about $60 a year. The Farmington City Council is to meet at City Hall, 23600 Liberty. Most popular for girls were Isabella and Isabelle , followed by Sophie and Sophia; Olivia; Ava; Emma; Abigail; Madison; Addison; Samantha, and Emily.
