2009: Most Popular Local Baby Names - Centralia Chronicle Posted: 09 Feb 2010 10:48 AM PST Message from fivefilters.org: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it. Hunter Willis Wood comes from a long line of hunters. His father, Scott Wood, is a hunter, as are his grandfathers, Leroy Abbey of Ethel and Bill Wood of Onalaska. The 10-month-old Napavine resident isn't yet aware of the big boots he has to fill. And while he remains oblivious to his ancestry, he is also in the dark about another connection he has to Lewis County "hunters." Hunter Wood is one of the six babies born with the name Hunter at Providence Centralia Hospital in 2009, making the name Hunter one of the two most popular baby names in the county for those born at the local hospital. The name Hunter tied with David for first place among all names including those of boys and girls, according to data provided by the hospital. Records indicate that 653 babies were born in the Family Birthing Center at Providence Centralia in 2009. Those numbers are down less than 1 percent from the 658 babies born in 2008. Hunter Wood is a brown-haired, blue-eyed little guy with rosy cheeks. He was 7 pounds 5 ounces at birth and 20 inches long. Hunter Wood's parents, Scott and Amanda Wood, have lived in Lewis County all of their lives. Scott and Amanda, both 27, graduated from Onalaska High School. No other hunters in the family are actually named Hunter, according to Amanda, but she knew this was going to be her first and last boy, so she wanted a name that fit. "Everybody in our family likes to hunt," she said. "He was almost a Casper, though." He would have been the only baby at Providence with that name, according to the records. Hunter has three older siblings, all sisters. Kendra is 9. Madison and Catee are both 4, although they were born nine months apart. Amanda is a busy stay-at-home mom, with three young ones still at home all day. Scott works at Sierra Pacific Industries, a sawmill in Centralia near Grand Mound. Kyle and Melissa Zimmermann were having such trouble coming up with a name for their next baby, they decided to hold a draw Mar. 1 to randomly select a name for the newborn, due in April. The couple (cautiously enough) is not committing to using the name drawn on that date, but the winner will receive a $50 gift certificate for a photo shoot at the family photography business. Since the family publicized the contest on their blog, the name suggestions have been coming in steadily via email. Melissa says she'll consider any name — but Rex and Alex aren't high on her list. "Names ending in X or Z don't flow well with Zimmermann cause it starts with a Z," she noted. The Zimmermann's have already had dozens of suggestions: Ryder, Decker, Calder, Carver, Kyler. And then there's some that are different: "Invader! I hadn't heard of it as a baby name but that doesn't mean it's not somebody's name somewhere," said Melissa. The parents said no name is too thin, too tall, too long, short or plain — after all one of the most famous Zimmerman's is named Bob. "What's been brought to our attention is that Bob Zimmerman is Bob Dylan's real name," said Melissa. The couple said ideally they'd like a name that goes well with the baby's brother, whose name happens to be Carter. And they say their favourite names begin with the letters C, K, R, D or that end with the letter R. According to web polls, the most popular baby names for boys these days are: Ethan, Aiden, Lucas, Kaden, Jayden, Nathan and Logan. Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. By Drew White Staff Writer MICHIGAN CITY — The first telltale sign of the presence of siblings on a high school basketball team usually entails identical last names listed on the roster. So, looking at Michigan City's girls basketball roster there is really no way of knowing that two players share the same room at home, let alone sharing the same set of parents. Toni Murphy, who goes by Tica, is half of the Michigan City freshman backcourt. Junior Angelique Moore, who goes by Gigi, patrols the Wolves' frontcourt. Tica has the competitive streak, regularly exhibited through her playing of video games. Gigi is the more vocal of the two. "She likes to yell," Tica said of her big sis. On the court, the two are key pieces of a Michigan City team looking to defend its back-to-back sectional championships, beginning Thursday in Valparaiso when the Wolves open up against Class 4A No. 5 Merrillville. The game was originally supposed to be played tonight, but was rescheduled due to snow. To answer the question of how the two ended up with different surnames, it involves the popular debate among expectant parents: baby names. Angelique was originally supposed to be named Antigny, a name that her mother Toni Moore ultimately decided against. Instead, she put Angelique on the birth certificate and father Anthony Murphy didn't sign, so Gigi ended up with her mother's last name. Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. Anne Hathaway's Piping Hot Valentine's Day Plans - Access Hollywood Posted: 09 Feb 2010 02:35 PM PST Message from fivefilters.org: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it. LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Anne Hathaway has some hot plans for Valentine's Day this coming Sunday. And on Monday night's red carpet for the premiere for her movie of the same name, Anne, in a gorgeous blue Marchesa feathered mini-dress, told Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson about how she will be spending Cupid's big day. "I think I'm just going to go home and cook and cook and cook and cook and that will be nice," Anne revealed. The beautiful brunette, who is reportedly dating actor Adam Shulman, revealed she even has a signature dish. "I do make a mean chicken pot pie so maybe I'll bust that out," she smiled. However, before she can heat up the kitchen, the actress will be sharing in the love of some friends. "I'm going to a wedding," Anne told Shaun of her early February 14 plans. "I'm going to my friends' wedding… which I think is going to be pretty romantic." Copyright 2009 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. Keep your Access to everything in Hollywood!
