Family to care for baby Henry Salter - News.com.au Posted: 25 Oct 2009 12:58 AM PDT THE grandfather of a baby orphaned in a car crash in central west NSW says the extended family will make sure he grows up knowing his mum and dad. Henry Salter, aged 11 months, was found with just minor injuries in the wreckage of a car, which had left Narromine Road, Tullamore just before 4pm AEDT on Friday. Police said the car was travelling west on Narromine Road when it left the roadway, crashed into a concrete drain and landed on its roof. Henry's parents Anita, 38, and Andrew, 30, died at the scene of the accident. Andrew Salter's father David Salter said the family would care for Henry. "We'll do everything that we can to make sure that Henry knows his mum and his dad," Mr Salter told the Seven Network. Fairfax reported the couple were on the way to their Condobolin home from Dubbo Base Hospital, where Henry was receiving treatment for breathing troubles. "Twenty years ago this medical issue would have been treated in Condobolin," Mr Salter said. "It's cost-cutting. What is the dollar value of two people?" Teacher Charged in Infant Son's Stabbing - MyFox Houston Posted: 25 Oct 2009 12:33 PM PDT SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) — A week-old boy is in critical condition after the child's mother says her husband held them hostage and allegedly stabbed the infant and himself. Sugar Land police spokesman Doug Adolph said Saturday that Anthony Gilbert, 37, had been charged with attempted capital murder. Adolph said Gilbert was in custody at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, where he's being treated for self-inflicted stab wounds. His wife, Jennifer Gilbert, 39, and their 2-year-old daughter accompanied the baby, who was bleeding heavily from stab wounds in the neck and chest, to a hospital Friday morning. A Houston newspaper reported that she told medical personnel that her husband, a Lamar school teacher, had stabbed his son several times and held them hostage overnight Thursday. Officials said they do not know how she and the children escaped or when the baby was stabbed. The infant was taken to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where administrator Casey Smith said Saturday that the baby is in the intensive care unit. Neither the woman nor the girl were injured. Anthony Gilbert was placed on administrative leave Thursday by the Lamar Consolidated School District, where a 16-year-old girl said she was having a sexual relationship with the Terry High School teacher, police said. He has been charged with sexual assault of a child, the newspaper reported. Sugar Land police arrived at the couple's home but said Anthony Gilbert wouldn't answer the door. Police used tear gas and forced their way into the apartment. Anthony Gilbert walked toward police and collapsed to the floor. "He had several stab wounds that were life-threatening," Adolph said. A spokeswoman for Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center said Saturday night that no information could be released on Anthony Gilbert. But Adolph said he is expected to recover and would be transferred from the hospital to Fort Bend County jail, where he would be held without bond. Adolph said he didn't know whether Anthony Gilbert had an attorney. "We anticipate more charges will be filed," Adolph said. Investigators said they were unsure whether the allegations and suspension had prompted the apparent attack, Adolph said, adding that other matters involving Gilbert are being reviewed. He also said the investigation does not involve other children, but it will require coordination with police and Lamar school officials, but he offered no other details.
