Infant Thrush, Autism, Allergies & Asthma - Is There a Link? Posted: 10 Sep 2009 08:35 PM PDT Infant thrush is common yeast infection of the mouth that occurs in infants. Disturbing new findings suggest this early yeast infection can contribute to more serious health problems down the line, including asthma, allergies and even autism. What is infant thrush? Infant thrush is a oral yeast infection, where yeast cells grow out of control, invading the tissue of your baby's mouth. Mothers who breastfeed may also develop yeast infection symptoms on their nipples and within their breast ducts. This can be a frustrating and painful condition for both moms and babies. While most health professionals view infant thrush as an annoying but fairly mild health condition, cutting edge health professionals are seeing that low level, chronic yeast infections may be linked with numerous health conditions, including: *asthma
You may be wondering, what's the connection? The problem is that practically all infant thrush treatments, both natural and pharmaceutical, aim at killing the yeast which is present. However, yeast is everywhere, so without correcting the underlying imbalance that allowed the yeast to grow out of control in the first place, the yeast is still present and is almost certain to be present in levels higher than what's healthy. As soon as you (or your baby) stop taking the drug or herb to prevent the yeast from growing, in many cases it will simply grow back. Even if the obvious signs (such as thrush patches in baby's mouth) are not present, the yeast can be invisibly growing within your child's body. The yeast candida albicans excretes volumes of toxic organic chemicals, so even in small amounts the yeast can cause big health problems. This toxic overload can contribute to any number of health conditions, including autism, learning and behavior disorders, weakened immunity, etc. In fact, many alternative health professionals now include an anti-yeast protocol as a primary part of the program to combat these health problems and they are having great success with this approach. Recent clinical research shows that most likely autism is not caused by any one toxic event (such as a vaccine) but by a combination of exposure to toxins--this means it's crucial to get yeast completely under control before it could contribute to a serious problem down the line. Yeast cells can also invade the tissue of the digestive tract (leaky gut syndrome), allowing too-large particles to pass through the intestinal wall. This contributes to the development of asthma, allergies and other inflammatory conditions. For these reasons it's crucial for parents to put a baby with thrush on a safe, non-toxic anti-yeast program that cures the underlying imbalance that allowed the yeast to grow out of control in the first place. This is the only way to ensure that the yeast cannot continue to grow parasitically in your child's body, whether it's an obvious problem or not. It's ideal for breastfeeding moms to treat as well, to avoid passing the yeast back and forth between mother and child. |
Product Review - Jogging Stroller - Schwinn Safari TT Swivel Jogging Stroller Posted: 10 Sep 2009 07:48 PM PDT Several months ago I posted that I had purchased a jogging stroller and I had started running with said jogging stroller. Here's what I like and don't like about the jogging stroller: LIKE: Fairly easy to clean. The jogging stroller is easy to clean. It would be nice if all the material came off to clean, but then it probably wouldn't be as sturdy. There's give and take for every feature. LIKE: Locking front wheel. I didn't know what this meant (locking front wheel) until I ran my 3rd race and my stroller was shimming and felt like it needed an alignment. As I passed a fellow racer, he called out to me "You should lock that front wheel in place, you could go faster!" Well duh, he was right! So you won't make the same mistake I did, the locking the front wheel should be done when you are jogging/running with the stroller. The front wheel should be unlocked when walking with the stroller. The unlocked front wheel gives you much more freedom to make easier turns. DON'T LIKE: Cup holder caddy. After about a month of using the stroller the cup holder caddy fell off and now doesn't stay in place, so it ended up in the garbage. Not a huge issue for me because I rarely use the jogging stroller in a manner that a cup would sit well. This would be a nice feature if I used it for walking more. LIKE: Under carriage space. This stroller has a nice under carriage space. I've crammed diapers, changing mat, etc. in this space and it holds a lot and doesn't affect the use of the stroller. In a smaller stroller that I use for walking there is a limit that you can put in the under carriage space before it bulges out acts like a brake against the wheels. LIKE: Easy to collapse and store. Ease of collapsing and storage was not a factor I considered when I researched jogging strollers, I'll say I got lucky on this one. This stroller is easy to collapse and store. I have a small SUV and once the stroller is folded, it fits nicely in the cargo area of my vehicle. There's several other features that I like about this jogging stroller, such as the 5 point harness, the ease that you can adjust the incline of the seat and how comfortable my little is when she's riding in it (she falls asleep almost every jog!). I'd give this 4 out of 5 stars. |
Simple Tips For Baby Sleep Stress Posted: 10 Sep 2009 05:41 PM PDT One of the most joyous occasions is seeing that pregnancy test with the + symbol on it...Congratulations! You may be pregnant or maybe you just had a baby. There's no feeling more incredible than when you've just had a baby. So why don't you feel wonderful all the time? Why are you constantly feeling stressed out? Well, even the best events in life have stress attached to them. Having a baby is exciting for everyone. You've been flooded with friends and family practically from the moment of delivery. If you're a first-time mother, hospitals don't give you very much help or advice; they send you home with this new little creature with an array of demands that you have to try to interpret. And new babies don't sleep much. At least not long enough to allow you to get some much needed rest for yourself. Add to that the hormonal changes in your own body, and you have a formula that's guaranteed to be stressful. Sometimes you think you'll never get a full night's sleep again. Until the baby settles into a routine, you probably won't! That is why it is so crucial to begin your new life with your baby in a structured manner if at all possible. I took the basic charts our baby's midwives gave us and transformed them into templates to use for our lifestyle and my personal fact-finding personality. To get through those first few weeks and months, here are a few tips to help you get at least a little more sleep. Trust me, sleep is the number one event in your life you most likely have taken for granted up to this point if you are a first-time parent. First of all, don't try to be a supermom or superdad. When the baby goes down for a nap, take a small nap yourself. The laundry can wait and so can the dishes. You don't need to have a perfect house. There will be time for all that; give yourself a break whenever you get the opportunity. If you have a good friend or relative to help out, by all means take advantage of that for an afternoon. Grandma and Grandpa would probably jump at the chance to have the baby all to themselves for a few hours! When you put the baby to bed for the night, take some time to decompress and relax so you have a better chance of falling asleep. Take a bath scented with lavender; put on some soft music and baby yourself a little. To decompress some people choose to watch TV, but I do not suggest doing this as it is yet another hidden form of stress, EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) stress. You may be thinking, but this is the only chance I get to unwind and just let my brain and body go...but you are fooling yourself and should try to avoid this electric stimulation before bed just as I suggest you don't have your child stimulated by this means before a nap or bedtime either. |

What is a Travel System and Do I Need One? Posted: 10 Sep 2009 01:18 PM PDT The definition of a travel system is a pushchair with a detachable carrycot and/or car seat. A travel system is supposed to be a more economical way of buying a pushchair, separate car seat and carrycot. If you have a car then you will need a car seat for your baby, so that's the first step in deciding whether or not to buy a travel system. A carrycot can be used as an alternative to a Moses basket or crib for the baby to sleep in at night, so that's a second step in your decision and of course you will need a pushchair to take your baby out and about - so a travel system is a good choice for you. The car seat and the carrycot are both able to fit onto the pushchair frame by simply "clicking" into place. If your baby is sleeping in the car and you need to take him/her out then you can just lift the car seat out and click it onto your pushchair frame. If your baby is asleep in his/her carrycot in the house then, again, you can just click the carrycot onto the pushchair frame and not disturb your little one. So, now you've decided to buy a travel system, but which one? Well it depends on whether you want a travel system with just a car seat or do you want a carrycot too? Travel systems without a carrycot start at around 100 up to around 600. With a carrycot then prices start at around 250 up to 950. When you've decided which type of travel system you want, it's time to decide on the actual one. How do you do that? The best way is to take a look at some pushchair stores online and see which ones appeal to you. Next so a search for reviews of those particular travel systems, opinions and facts from people who have used them are invaluable. You might like the look of a particular system, purchase it and then find out it's really not what you wanted - doing your research first will save you time, hassle and money. Also go to a pushchair store that sells the system you're considering and ask the assistant to show it to you, have a go yourself, ask questions, then decide if it's the one for you. |
