| Why Haven't Tom and Gisele Named Their Baby Yet? - E! Online (blog) Posted: 16 Dec 2009 02:03 PM PST Tom and Gisele: Why is it taking so long for them to name their baby? What kind of name are they wanting? Yes, it's true, American athlete Tom Brady and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen had a baby boy more than a week ago on Dec. 8, but they have not named him yet. Why? The possible reasons may surprise you... First, stars need time to, you know, think about stuff. Tobey Maguire and his wife took two weeks to name their new kid Otis. Maguire told Ellen DeGeneres that the only reason they didn't wait any longer was because they were running out of time to apply for a passport for the baby. Brady has said he wants the kid to have a traditional name—presumably something half-Brazilian-traditional—and something he "can pronounce." Given how many insane celebrity baby names there are out there, the task seems well nigh impossible. But plenty of famous people have labeled their children with relative restraint. Let's see if we can't get some inspiration from them, along with some help from our own TV diva Kristin Dos Santos, who herself recently named a half-Brazilian bebeh. But first, the tame, "traditional" baby names of the stars. They do exist. Meg Ryan has kids named Jack and Daisy, and before you ask, no, that does not mean that Meg has a son named Jack Ryan (the teenager has the dad's last name, Quaid, as in Meg's ex-husband, Dennis). And that doesn't mean that Jack Quaid is not some sort of patriotic man of action; he very well could be. Julia Roberts named one of her sons Henry. Courtney Love's daughter—who recently left home to live with grandparents—is Frances Cobain. Violet Affleck isn't all that crazy town, nor is Charlotte Grace, the name of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s baby. (Thanks to my Twitter followers for those last two suggestions.) As for the half-Brazilian angle, I got some great insight from Kristin, whose baby is named Luca. She tells me that finding a pronounceable, yet traditional, Brazilian name may be tough for the Tom and Gisele. "Portuguese names can be very difficult for Americans to pronounce, and vice versa," she says. "I loved Dylan, but that is pronounced Jillan in Portuguese. "Jack is pronounced Jhackie. Names that both English and Portuguese speakers can pronounce easily tend to be Latin such as Marcus, Lucas, Tomas, etc." Sounds like we've narrowed down the potential name. | Posted: 16 Dec 2009 09:31 AM PST  It's true: Baby names are commonly a result of celebrity or media-influenced trends, but this year's grouping is a shocking demonstration of life imitating art. Character names from the Twilight saga—Edward, Bella, Isabella, Emmett, Jacob, Jasper and Esme (all from the Cullen coven of vampires other than Jacob, the werewolf)—have all made the top of the list.
There wasn't much surprise in the number-one popular girl's name, Amelia—which, according to Mallory Moss, cofounder of BabyNames.com (the site that released the list), is a result of the popular old-fashioned, American Girl-esque name trend. But Moss believes that it's no coincidence that the name Vivienne, which was also at the top of the list, is that of Brangelina's baby girl, born last year. As for the gentlemen: The number-one name this year, at the top of the list since 2003, is Aidan. Hmm. As we can recall, it was during 2002 that Aidan Shaw, the Sex and the City character played by the very dreamy John Corbett, was the most lusted-over good guy there was. We're just relieved this copycat trend didn't pick up with such force following the Harry Potter series.
